The creators of Kazaa Lite basically modified Kazaa’s binary for this. Sharman Networks considered the application an outright copyright violation and moved to remove Kazaa Lite online. The application was never totally removed but the developments for the application ceased.
The Aftermath
After development of the unauthorized modified version of the original Kazaa was stopped, other Kazaa versions started sprouting all over the Internet. These versions include K-Lite v2.6 and Kazaa Lite Resurrection. Kazaa Lite and K-Lite has always been confused. The name has been interchanged between the two so people do not know what to make of them when it comes to legality issues. is kazaa lite legal? Is it the same as Kazaa Lite?
Although the two sounds similar and the same, if you would really take a look at the source of these two applications, you would see the difference. K-Lite is not actually an update to the Kazaa Lite. It is actually a separate loader. Fundamental changes were incorporated in this application. Unlike Kazaa Lite, K-Lite uses KMD 2.6 executable in order to function. K-Lite requires the unpatched version of Kazaa Media Desktop, which will run in an environment that would remove the adware, malware and spyware. K-Lite is actually believed to be legal since the original binary of Kazaa is required for K-Lite to function. This is different from the answer to the question, “is kazaa lite legal?”
